Course Introduction
Course description
Education is the cornerstone of the allied health professions because ongoing development of these professions relies on quality clinical education, which will ultimately improve the standard and quality of patient care. It is therefore necessary that clinicians performing the clinical educator role, especially those relatively inexperienced with student education, be provided with an opportunity to engage in a comprehensive education program and be conscious of the essential skills required to become an effective clinical educator. The content of this course is accredited by Australia Physiotherapy Council (see accreditation certificate) can be delivered in the format or a face-to-face workshop or a video-based online course. This course is designed to provide opportunities for clinical educators and potential clinical educators to receive a comprehensive suite of training to equip them with core skills and characteristics that will enable them to become quality clinical educators. This course focuses on introducing contemporary concepts of clinical education, the essential attributes of a clinical educator, the assessment of learning, the application and interpretation of a standardised student assessment instrument during clinical placement, various modes of delivery of effective feedback to facilitate clinical reasoning and strategies for the management of challenging students will be discussed. Participants will also engage in activities such as creating learning objectives, scoring a student via a recorded placement scenario using the standardised assessment tool, and reflecting on their own educational skills through guided self-reflection and recommended video resources.
